Using the HCAD app to file your Homestead Exemption

Don't waste time filling out and mailing the paper HCAD homestead exemption form! Here are instructions on how you can apply for your homestead exemption using the HCAD mobile app.

The app is called the HCAD Information and Exemption App and it allows a property owner to submit a residence homestead exemption application by providing images of the front and back of their driver’s license as well as check the status of the application.

Important ! You need to update your driver’s license address to your the address your filing the homestead exemption!

To submit the homestead application utilizing the mobile app, you will need 4 items:

• The date of occupancy of your residence.
• Your TX driver’s license with the property address listed
  • You can update your driver's license online
